| Hi,
I'm trying to connect to a MUD (discworld) via mushclient, and I've started getting the following error message when I try to connect:
Unable to connect to 'discworld', code = 10060 (Connection timed out)
Error occurred during phase: Connecting to world: 82.68.167.69, port 4242
However, my laptop is fully able to surf the web externally and internally within our Uni halls network.
Could you help?
Thanks in advance, Paul Wiltshire | | Top |

| Can you connect to other MUDs?
(This isn't a bug, by the way) |

| If you are at a Uni they probably have a firewall that prevents you playing online games. Accessing web sites is probably done via a proxy server.
See if you can telnet to the site in question (telnet comes with Windows). If not, there is probably nothing you can do, and it certainly is not a bug in the client. |

| | I've had no problems accessing the MUD though for the last 5 weeks at Uni, so I have no idea why it would suddenly have stopped me accessing this one... | | Top |

| You have connected for 5 weeks with MUSHclient? I don't like to nitpick, but that sounds like it isn't a MUSHclient bug then.
Here are some possibilities:
- They have suddenly blocked that port, perhaps the network administrators found that too much bandwidth was being used playing games. Try another client, or use telnet:
Windows Start menu -> Run -> type:
telnet 82.68.167.69 4242
If that doesn't work, then it is a general issue, not a MUSHclient one.
- The MUD was down for a while. I checked a moment ago, it seems to be up now.
- The MUD is blocking incoming connections from your IP address. Perhaps someone at the Uni was being a nuisance, and they configured their routers to disallow inwards traffic from where you are.
- You installed a firewall (or enabled one) on Windows, and it is Windows (or the firewall) that is blocking outwards connections. Try connecting (eg. using telnet) from a friend's PC.

| I suggest if it is the proxy idea, to do a google search for a proxy list site, one that lists socks 4 or 5 proxies, and use one of those to connect. I know someone who does that from work, so that it shows up as connecting to the proxy, and they just rotate proxies every so often when one gets blocked ...

P.S. i think one of them is called samair, or something, like that, it was a good one with many around the world. | | Top |
