| I am only asking this because I am admin of a SmaugWiz implemented MUD.
I, as well as my builders, use OLC, but I have used AE and ORB before. Right about now I am refurbishing my starting area and I figured it would be easier to establish an offline way to build it. I do not like to tie up the phone line all that much.
So I was wondering when a SmaugWiz compatible version of AE will be available. As it is a SmaugWiz and Star Wars Reality compatible version of ORB is in the works. But I see no such news for AE.
Now I am not complaining nor whining for the change. But like I said. I am trying in vain to refurbish this area, and I cannot get it to reconvert to smaug 1.4 using the SwConvert.exe program that comes with the stock SmaugWiz distribution.
My MUD is up and running, and has been for awhile. But time is off the essence on the completion of this starting area. So I was wondering if there was a projected date. Or if you have decided to not do it at all. |

| I suppose the simple answer is "not soon". I don't know the differences between stock SMAUG and SmaugWiz, so I don't know what is needed to make it compatible.
The SMAUG area files are pretty straightforward in their composition, it shouldn't be too hard to read them in and convert them into an AE compatible format, but I don't know myself how to do that. |

| Well the simple things I believe are the lack of VERSION being compatible.. And SmaugWiz doesn't use the NEIGHBOR variable.. Or the ENVIRONMENT Variable.. Though I am not entirely sure about the second one.. I can convery Smaug files to SmaugWiz .. But not vice versa.. Just wondering if you were going to make the minor changes to the source to allow SmaugWiz to be opened through it.. |

| Can you describe the differences exactly (preferably with small examples)? If it is straightforward I can try to do it soon. |

| Actually mate.. It would be better if I just sent you a stock area of SmaugWiz.. Right? Besides that... If you needed to know the specifics I may have to hook you up with Rustry(SmaugWiz's coder)... I can tell you one thing though.. The version number is 1000 .. The neighbor variables(when being transferred from smaug 1.4 to smaugwiz) need to be deleted using a text editor or the convertor.. If you would like me to send you one just shoot me an email to Webmaster@GryphonForge.Com and I will send you my stock new darkhaven or something along those lines.. Mebbe Limbo.. Heh.. |

| Anything to help out.. I would love to get my Builders acquainted with Area Editor as I feel it is more intuition based.. ORB has it's ups and downs.. But I feel that Area Editor has a more professional feel.. And is easier to learn in my opinion.. |

| Dont know excatly how old all the above msgs are but I will in this explain what the diff between STOCK SMAUG and STOCK SMAUGWIZ are. (in the area field atleast)
The biggest outstanding diffrence is that smaug is C smaugwiz is C++
now for area junk:
any #HELP will resolve an error in the convertor program that comes with smaug.
#VERSION is diffrent if you wish i could send you thee excat code to explain all the other diffrences in the ways it writes the file which is a hard one to put to words rather then show.
if you wish anything else to know about hthis just email me. | Top |
