| Yes, me again with another question ;)
I've gotten this error on reboot / startup quite a few times. It doesn't seem to affect anything that I've found yet (but my checking is limited). It basically says something to the effect of 'unable to open planes file for read.'
What does this mean, and what file would this be? planes.dat or something? I can find no such file so I assume it can't open it because it isn't there. Should it be, or is there are a reason for this problem? I've got the windowz distribution FWIW.
While I'm on the subject, what exactly does the planes file do as far as the mud is concerned?
BTW - I get the same error / bug when someone is killed, it says it can't write or read the corpse file? But corpses seem to work fine in the game from what I can tell. Are these two errors related?
Thanks for any and all help! | Top |

| The problem is being caused in plane.c, where it apparently opens area files, so it appears it is having problems with some area files, which is probably why dying is messed up since it is supposed to transport the person, maybe one of the areas in area.lst isn't there?

| From what I can tell all the areas are there. When I fry someone (it is fun to use that slay <user> immolate command!) they get sent off to wherever they're supposed to, the room with the healer(?) (it's late I can't recall the name).
Like I said, I get errors regarding corpses too, yet the corpses work fine in game. Bodybagging works fine from what I can tell too. If I knew what the heck the planes file actually functioned to do (or the corpse file?) I could try and see if I was getting something beyond a "BUG" message in the game. Besides seeing the bug message, I've found no adverse game effects from these two errors.
Again anyone that can tell me what the deal is with these two files / bugs / errors... I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks! | Top |
