| This is a pretty big spam risk. It would be a good idea to remove email and replace it with some sort of PM system so users can exchange information without being vulnerable to robots crawling this website. | Top |

| This is already here.
You can uncheck "show email" if you are a registered user, in which case it does not display your email address.
Plus, you can send a mail message from one forum user to another by using the "Send an email to <user>" which appears if you click on their username on a forum message. This uses the forum's knowledge of the email address without disclosing it to the recipient (unless you want to). |

| But the problem is you need to explicitly choose not to show the email, which is something a lot of people seem to skip over, leading to a lot of emails visible to spiders.
With a PM system in place, there's no need to have an email listed anyway.
Just a thought. | Top |

| I have changed the default, when you create a forum account, to not display publicly your email address. Thus you need to explicitly enable it now.
Also I have changed the wording of the "help" text underneath to make it clearer that anyone would be able to view your email address, not just other forum users.
As for existing addresses, I think the cat is out of the bag now. Anyone that wants to can amend their forum listing to not show their email address. |
