World name and TCP/IP address

World Name:

This can be anything you like, it is there to help you identify the MUD on screen displays, alert boxes and so on. As an example, enter: "Realms of Despair".

MUD address and port

You connect to a MUD via an address and "port number". Enter them below.

TCP/IP Address:

This is the Internet address of the game's server. This will be the number OR name given on MUSH distribution lists. In the case of Realms of Despair you could enter:

realmsofdespair.com

or

216.251.47.10 (this number may change)

Port Number:

This is the port that the MUSH server is listening for new connections on. In the case of PennMUSH-style MUSHes it is usually 4201, but could be some other number. Diku-style MUDs often use port 4000. This number is always advised next to the MUSH address of distribution lists.

Example

You read about a MUD: Realms of Despair - realmsofdespair.com:4000

This tells you the MUD name (Realms of Despair), the address (realmsofdespair.com) and the port number (4000).

Clear Cached IP

Click this to clear MUSHclient's internal "cache" of the MUD TCP/IP address. You may need to do this if the MUD changes addresses frequently, as MUSHclient saves time by remembering the name-to-IP address lookup.

Proxy Server

If you are using a proxy server (Socks 4 or Socks 5 protocol) then choose the appropriate protocol from the combo-box, otherwise select "none".

Socks 5 is the more recent protocol and should be used in preference to Socks 4.

Lists of proxy servers can be found by searching the Internet. We suggest using keywords like "proxy server socks" in your search engine. Some are free, some you pay for.

Address:

Enter the address of the proxy server (name or dotted-number). This is the address of the proxy server, not the MUD.

Port:

Enter the port for connecting to the proxy server. Typical port numbers for proxy servers are 1050 or 1080, however consult the documentation for your particular server.

Proxy server password...

If your proxy server requires a name and password (Socks 5 only) click on this to enter them.

Save World Automatically On Close

If this is checked then the "world" file is automatically saved (if you have changed anything) when you close the world. This is useful if you definitely want to save changes you have made to your world (eg. Notes, Variables) after every session.
