I would like to create a mud. I was hoping to find somthing that was versatile enough to allow me to expand to a graphical UI down the road using JAVA or other client-end technology.

I come from a programming/software engineering background with focus on graphics and databases. My main two languages of choice are C/C++ and JAVA.

What I was looking for:

1. effecient -- I want to run it on an older FreeBSD server
2. in the spirit of an RPG like Ultima Online was
3. able to easily redesign the code to fit in a graphical client

I really do not want to re-invent the MUD. I was looking at WorldForge and the Cyphesis server. I was thinking this was a bit too complicated for my purposes. I just want a simple and small MMORPG game: somthing like Wyvern (www.cobochon.com), or Astonia (www.astonia.com), or Tibia (www.tibia.com).

Any input would be greatly apreciated.
