i did port forwarding to my local pc on the network
i also went to network proporties and allowed telnet access to this local machine

but when people try to connect to my public IP on the port 4000 it doesn't find the address

yet i can connect to my public IP from within the network

there is some firewall im forgetting to turn off somewhere
im using windows xp

has anyone else under a router with winxp tried hosting smaug1.4a?

if so what did u do

You seem to have opened "pure telnet" access, which is port 21 or 23 or something... you actually want to open port 4000 in that "Network Properties" section.

If your running a router and a firewall, you have to forward both the firewall and the router. The router can be forwarded from within your router settings.

ive tried telnet 4000 (and local ip) instead of 23 in the network settings

they still cannot connect

i worked like 4 weeks on this MUD, i have to figure out what's wrong

for some reason only port 23 does

You probably need to port forward *and* open that port on the firewall.

i think my firewall didn't like ports as high as 4000
cuz i opened 4000 on both and it didnt work

but if i opened 23 on both it did
im just happy it worked
