can i connect to smaug without any internet connection at all?
in other words, can i run smaug in an MSDos window (windows ME) and then open up a telnet (without any internet) and play? it seems like it should be possible but maybe i'm just being optimistic. thanks for any help.

Yes you can do that. Start it up like you said, and then use your client to connect to "localhost" (which is your own PC) with the appropriate port (default 4000). If it doesn't recognise localhost, use: 127.0.0.1

hey nick,
thanks for the quick reply... i tried to connect that way using both the localhost and 127.0.0.1 and each time i received the error message: Could not open a connection to host: Connect failed.

sorry to sound completely ignorant, but what am i doing wrong? thanks again.

The likely reason is that the server is not up. Did you run it in a DOS Window and were there error messages?

Hi Nick,

I was able to finally get it work last night... I finally figured out that I had extracted all of the smaug files into a folder outside of the C: root directory. *doh* Anyway, sorry for the spam, and thanks again for your help.

This is a great site, btw. =)
