Newbie Mud Creator

Sup everyone i just started creating a mud, so i thought id start with SMAUG considering ive heard alot of good things about its easy use, and good compatability with many things. Anyways im only 15 and thought this could be some valuble experience towards my upcoming career in programming and software designing anways, i think ive got most of the files needed in order to make a full length mud, then i hear all this stuff about compiling things and making all this jib jab that ive never heard of before. THus i am lost, ive created an area and the such and have my basic areas all set to go, but when i try to get the mud running after i get a bunch of errors and the such and i have no clue why, but then i dont know much about muds so i am seeking help. I am smart enough to check out the bugs file which i did and here is what it said. Im thinking its just some basic n00b erorrs but thats me!

No clue what they mean accept for some of the area things which i have tried to fix but have been unsuccesful. Please help me any help would be greatly appreciated.

The errors you are getting would indicate the formatting of your created area is well, wrong. The errors are on duplicate mobile vnums and exits to nonexistant rooms or thru nonexistant doors. I'm not all that terribly familiar with SMAUG but 99% of all codebases read areas in pretty much the same way so if you'd be so kind as to post the entire entry for room 2096 and any of your mobile entries I'll see what I can do to help you debug em so you can hopefully start your mud. Honestly though, if you really are a true novice, I'd recommend looking into the Dawn of Time codebase as Kalahn has taken the time to make it possible to actually start the mud without any areas at all so you can get the mud up and running to build with an OLC which I know for fact has a much easier learning curve than building offline in ansi/ascii text files. I had the dubious pleasure of building for many years on a Circle mud without benefit of an OLC and I know first hand just how easy it is to screw up an area file without realizing it.

Anyway, thats just some friendly advice from someone thats been there before.
