Variables within regexps

Is there any way to expand a variable WITHIN a trigger's regular expression? I haven't been able to find any documentation on this and every attempt I've tried failed with bizarre results.

For example, I have a variable called @myvar whose value is 'asdf'. My trigger has regular expression checked and the line to match is simply '@myvar'. This doesn't seem to work at all.

But even weirder, I have a variable called @hazuname which is meant to match a person's name that changes from time to time. At the moment, its value was set to 'None'. A similar trigger was created to match this variable. However, instead of matching the word 'None', it would only match the letter 'n'! So every 'n' in all the output would get highlighted.. Anyone have any ideas?

There is a problem with expanding variables in trigger match text which is fixed in 3.23 (see release notes for 3.23, point 2).

The buggy implementation in earlier versions may well match in unexpected ways.
