I've spent the past few hours searching over and over again, looking here and there for a list of available command-line switches for starting MUclient. So far all I can find is the /wine switch for *nix environments...

i.e.: MUSHclient.exe /do-this /and-this /with value

I was looking for a way to specify MUclient as the default telnet application for my web browser, for telnet:// URLs. I was hoping for switches that could allow me to start MUclient (if not running; else bring into focus before...) and automatically connect to a default default, or user-defined default, world purely for the purpose of a "quick connect" to the telnet site passed in the URL.

I did see the Windows "File Types" solution described in the bug/suggestion database. I didn't like that method as it would execute a new copy of MUclient each time. I'd like to make use of any already running copy, and just load up a quick connect for the moment...

Not necessarily. Some programs, especially when you use DDE or things like that, open up subsequent files in the same window. This should fix the problem, and I agree that it could be nice in some situations.

There is the /wine switch, there is the /noauto switch which doesn't load the worlds at startup (you can also hold the shift key while MC is loading for that), and you can specify the name of the world to load in the command line. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be another option...

Yes, you have the following:

  • /wine for running under Wine (seems to work OK without it these days)

  • /noauto for starting without the worlds in your "auto start" list

  • world file name (eg. mushclient.exe myworld.mcl) - to open a particular "world" file

  • "host port" for starting from a web browser (eg. mushclient.exe localhost 4201)

It does not try to limit itself to a single execution at present, if you happen to open multiple worlds from a web browser.

So you should be able to set it up as your default telnet, using the host port thing, and no auto. Just not put multiple things in the same MC window. Which, once you have one open, you can just make a quickstart world.
