How do I add black color to the background of the login screen? And how do you edit the MOTD thing?

You can change the MOTD by using HEDIT, because its a help file. So hedit motd. As for the black color to the background... Isn't that how it is? It should be default. Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean.

For future reference, you made need ANSI codes, which can be found at http://www.gammon.com.au/scripts/doc.php?function=ansi

Well, the background of your MUD client can be changed, so it may be that you have yours set to another colour, because as far as I know, black is the standard as far as it goes for all muds. Now, as for smaug, I beleive that if you are having the background on some of your login screen, you may need to reset it by using, at least on my mud, "^x", I beleive that is the SMAUG standard. You might want to check "help colour". Also you wanna make sure that you have the code to support ANSI login screens if not, then that something else you need to deal with. Hope that helps.
