Hello all,
I am trying to develop a new mud using smaug and its been a while since I've tried to do this (several years). I've noticed the new releases of updated and bugfixed Smaug servers(SmaugFuss16 and SmaugFuss17) however when I compiled the latest one Smaug17 it gave me lots of error messages when starting up as opposed to SmaugFuss16 which ran fine with the exception of being unable to acess 'clan vaults' (I wish someone would please explain that one to me too).
But basically what I'm asking is, with the little coding experience I have, my main concern is to stay away from bugs and other problems I may experience that will ruin my MUD. My lack of coding knowledge will prevent me from dealing with such problems and my hope is to try and avoid them.
I hear, however that there is problems even with the FUSS servers.
Which of the three is least likely to have bugs and nuisances in it?
Thanks for any help,
Yaakov

| Obviously FUSS 1.7 is the least bugged. Use that. If you're getting errors, you're doing something wrong. Let me know what the errors are and I can help with them. You probably forgot some Makefile flags. |

| Dear all,
I went back to the makefile and uncommented the cygwin support and now the server compiles without a problem and runs properly when I start it up =)
I guess this version of Smaug (Smaug17Fuss) is compatible with most of the smaug snippets out there that I can incorporate in my MUD.
Thanks a lot for the help, Zeno - besides being an amateur at coding, I have a bad habbit of missing the obvious.
Additional thanks to the Smaug team, Samson, and Nick Gammon for sharing your tools, assistance, bug fixes, and coding.
When my Smaug MUD is almost operational I will post a link.
Best of luck and a happy new years,
Yaakov |
