I'm a newbie to creating muds. I've done some programming, but none of it was usable to create a mud, however I've wanted to make my own mud for a while. I downloaded the smaug server and area creater off of this site. Whenever I run the server, I can access the mud through 'localhost' on port 4000 however, if I try to get someone else to connect to it they can't. How can I do this? I tried giving them my I.P. address and having them connect to that on port 4000, but that didn't work. What do I need to do. Also, are there any tips to help me as I start off? I'm hoping to be able to modify the mud that came with the server to my liking, since I don't have all of the knowledge needed to program it myself.

Sounds like a firewall issue. This has been answered often here, so do a search and see what comes up.
