| You won't. By definition a dynamic IP address changes, that is why it is called "dynamic".
You want a "static" IP address. This is not usually available to people on dial-up modems, because the ISP has more customers than they have IP addresses (or phone lines), so when a customer dials in they get allocated an address from a "pool" of addresses they have.
It is more likely to be available on a cable modem, because people leave them on all day, however even then the cable modem provider might change the address periodically to stop you running servers (like MUDs).
There are places that provide a service that maps a name to a dynamic address. I can't remember offhand what one is called. Basically they use a DNS entry that times out quickly (eg. every hour). Then you have to advise them every time your IP address changes. |

| okay the main reason I ask this is because I have a perm IP that doesn't change but it begins with 169 and a friend of mine sayd this is a dummy IP that window assigns when it doesn't have another one to use(didn't make much sense to me) I found this when using a trace program to trace someone | Top |
