I thought this would be obvious, you go to the startup and change the port number and save, and yet when I run the smaug.exe it still opens with port 4000. I saved the file, closed everything down and it still is opening on 4000. Is there another file that specifies the port that Im missing?

Changing it in startup should be all that's required, but it's also set in comm.c and, if you have it, qstart as well. But if you've changed it in startup you should just need to go to your src folder and type ./startup & to run the mud on the new port.

Depends which version you have. One of the precompiled ones I did ages ago had the port hard-coded for some reason.

Im also noticing that, other than changing the name of the mud, nothing done inside the mud or outside is saving. I started working on an area, created a few rooms linked them and made a mob with a program. I saved it and closed. When I came back later loada didnt work, it said cant be opened.

Which version do you have? Where did you download it from?
