Anytime the "<" character is sent from the MUD, everything after it is omitted until it is closed with ">".
For example: "HELP <text>." just shows up as "HELP ."

Basically you have MXP enabled, and MUSHclient is trying to interpret <something> as an XMP tag.
Try turning MXP off.
