This site, Firefox and staying logged in..

Ok, I think I finally get what some people have said before about staying signed in hear... Never had this problem with Opera (well, very rarely anyway), but my main machine, with Opera installed, is currently not working, so I am using Firefox on the other one. For some idiot reason, the moment you close Firefox, it forgets that it was ever logged into this sight, then procudes to require you to log in again. Other sites that use the same, "Remember me on this machine.", type feature don't have this problem...

For testing purposes, if you plan to try to track down the problem Nick, I am using Firefox 1.5.0.1, with these extensions:

The only one I can think of possibly causing a problem is NoScript, which doesn't let any script run until the full page loads, even when the site is set as allowed. So, if its the page's script dealing with if to ask for a login, then that might be it. Otherwise, something is just bloody screwy with the way yours works, compared to others. :p

I only get logged out when I clear my cache.

Using version 1.5.0.1, and I get logged out every once in a while. I assumed that was normal, but I guess not?

Try disabling the NoScript extension and see if that fixes anything. I have no problems whatsoever.

That being said, the forum does log you out if your IP changes, or when you clear your cookies cache. So that might explain Zeno's case of being logged out every once in a while, if he uses the forum from another machine before coming back to his main one. (It's what happens to me in any case.)

I am using Firefox 1.5.0.1 these days, and have not noticed this problem. I closed it and re-opened and was still logged in.

In your forum profile you can set the time the "login cookie" lasts for. In your case it is blank which takes the default of 7 days. You may want to increase that.

I do not use scripts at all, which you can confirm by looking at the page source.

You may have disabled cookies for this or all sites. You may have set "keep cookies until I close Firefox" which I notice is an option.

When you log in, it generates a random string and puts it into a cookie. This random string is simply a random number and in no way has any identifying information. It is stored against your user profile, so that if, next time you use the forum, the cookie random string is found it assumes that you are that user.

Clearing cookies, not storing them at all, or simply changing PCs, will result in your being logged out.

It only stores a single "cookie string" per user, and thus if you use the forum from more than one PC you will have to login each time you change PCs. This is a security feature anyway, like if you use the forum from (say) an Internet cafe, and forget to log out, as soon as you log in somewhere else it clears your earlier login.

Hmm. Upped the time out by a wide margin. All the other settings show as valid, so I find it seriously odd that it is happening. Did once in a while with Opera too, but only "very" rarely.
