is there a way to make the send_keep_alive thing to fire more often? i heard the default is 2 minutes, which isnt enough to keep me alive.

You get kicked off the MUD if you don't do something in 2 minutes? Or is it your router?

In any case there is no option to change the time.

the mud isnt forcing me off if that is what you're asking. i need some kind of spam to stay connected and they wont allow me to use timers that execute commands every so often.

I would try to reconfigure the router. 2 minutes sounds really low. It would be pretty hard to telnet to a server, for example, if you got disconnected after a minute of inactivity.

Make sure you set this option before connecting to the MUD.

Are you saying that, after you connect to the game, if you sit there doing nothing for 2 minutes you are disconnected?

reconfigure it how? im pretty much a newbie as to what i should change...or really anything. i know how to log in to it (netgear router) but not smart enough to figure out what i should change to try and help with this.

it's a random amount of time that i'll disconnect...sometimes i can go 5 minutes, other times 30-40 minutes and usually not much more than that.

There have been a few posts on this forum about this issue. Whilst that may sound like it's a bug that needs fixing, it needs to be compared to the thousands of people who use the client without any problem.

You might be able to send some innocuous thing to the MUD to stay alive, something like a telnet sequence "turn echo on" which would not have any real effect on the server, but make the router think you are still connected.

You could also try to connect to the router (most have a web interface these days) and see if there is some "keep alive" setting you can tweak.

i dont know what you mean by the telnet sequence thing, googling it didnt really work out.

as far as having my router do a "keep alive" thing, i only found one way of doing it but whenever i change those settings i end up losing internet completely. not sure how to make it so it still connects or something.....netgear wnr1000v2

no one else with ideas?

All I can suggest is try a different client for a day (eg. Mudlet). If the problem goes away, it is something to do with MUSHclient. If you still have the problem it is something to do with your router.

Most of our suggestions were killed by the fact that you can't use timed events. If you've got food and drink events at regular(ish) intervals they're usually plenty frequent to keep a connection alive.

mudlet didnt change anything either, i didnt expect it to though. i disconnect from other multiplayer games that arent muds if i idle for however long.

Trouble is either your router or something along your route to the mud. Have you tried using tracert to see if there are any trouble areas along the route? As a point of interest, if you're playing internationally, it's a safe bet there are some issues along the route.

yeah it's in another country, across an ocean. im not sure what to look for in a tracert as far as problem detecting.

edit: my old dial-up connection never had this problem, and it was still in another country.
