I notice that today we have reached another milestone on this forum - 200,000 views

I would be interested in viewing some stats related to MUSHclient, like how many people have registered so far (and how many say 6 months and 1 year ago, etc). If you have any means of tracking illegal hack registrations (how many), or non-registered users. How many downloads now, and in 6 months, 1 year ago, etc...

I completely understand that you may want to keep some or all information private. That's absolutely cool. :)

I really hope that the new plugins support helps the MUSHclient user base grow. More people programming increases our resource pool, and makes mud life better for all of us. :)

Get my plugins here: http://www.magnumsworld.com/muds/

Constantly proving I don't know what I am doing...

As a rough guide, the number of downloads (using HTTP) in August 2002 was:

  • Version 3.20 - 440
  • Version 3.24 - 587
  • Version 3.25 - 1,389
  • Version 3.26 - 867

(Total: 3,283 downloads using HTTP).

My web host provider doesn't supply counts of FTP downloads, so people downloading using ftp, rather than as HTTP are not counted.

Also not counted are people who download from other sites (eg. Tucows).

There were 27 registrations in August 2002.

You might suppose that most of the downloads in August were existing (registered) users upgrading to version 3.24 (onwards) which were all released in August, however in July there were 3,547 downloads (much the same number) although there were no new releases in July.

These figures support my "rule of thumb" that about 1% (1 in 100) of people who download MUSHclient pay for it (probably more like 0.5% because the figures above don't take into account "copies of copies", copies from Tucows and other sites, CDROMs and so on).

If you are enthusiastic about MUSHclient you can help "spread the word" by:

  • Encourage players who are using MUSHclient to register it (ie. the 99 out of 100 who haven't)
  • Ask your MUD admins to list MUSHclient as a "suggested" or "preferred" client for their MUD.

When I downloaded the client I immediately downloaded the hack for it. I enjoyed it so much that I reg'd it. I know that a lot of people would not do that, so I post now. Thanks Nick for a truely great job. I wish that you could get all that was yours to have, but with the hacks out there and persons morals, well enough said. Thanks again Nick!
